As a Special Education Advocate, my mission is to empower families navigating the complex world of special education. I assist families in advocating for a Free Appropriate Public Education that meets their child's individual unique needs through services, supports, and accommodations. The purpose of IDEA is to ensure that each student with disabilities receives FAPE and provides for further education, employment, and independent living. While serving students, I always keep those three things at the forefront to ensure that students opportunities aren't limited due to lack of services or supports.
The data review package includes reviewing up to 3 years of your child's educational records and private records, such as independent evaluations, therapy notes, and letters of recommendation from medical and service providers. I cross reference all documents that you provide and provide a detailed summary and Advocate Recommendations Report. The Advocate Recommendation Report serves as your blueprint for communication with school and district staff and how to advocate for your child in IEP or 504 meetings.
The Single Meeting Package includes the review and summary of up to 3 years of your child's records. In place of the Advocate Recommendations Report, I will co-write your Parental Concerns Letter. The Parental Concerns Letter gets input directly into the IEP document ensuring your voice is heard and your concerns are addressed.
I will attend and advocate for your child in one virtual meeting. This meeting MUST be scheduled with my input on available dates and times.
I will assist in writing and responding to up to 8 email communications leading up to the IEP meeting.
You will receive a copy of the transcribed IEP meeting through the recording app I utilize. A summary of the meeting is also provided with the link. This is a great tool to ensure that everything discussed in the meeting either gets input into the IEP as agreed up OR you receive Prior Written Notice for things agreed upon or refused.
The Full Advocacy Package is for parents who are at the beginning of their journey with their child who needs Special Education and Related Services. It is also for families whose voices are not being heard and have become overwhelmed by the process.
Full Advocacy Services include Records Review of up to 3 years of records from your childs school and outside providers, draft letters and provide correspondence directly with school and district staff, attend and advocate at up to 3 virtual meetings in a one year period, and assist in creating annual goals and accommodations.
Other serves that are included in this package include referrals and recommendations to other professional service providers, links to resources, parent training, and assistance in filing State Complaints if necessary to protect your parental rights and your child's rights.
Federal laws permit advocates to access your child's records and speak on your behalf with your signed consent. This frees up your time and energy from the mundane and tedious parts of advocacy. Parents are always included in communication via email and do make all major decisions with advisement.
My journey as an advocate started 18 years ago when I was first introduced to Early Intervention Services and Special Education Services due to my children's disabilities. As my children got older, they developed additional services and supports through their IEPs. This was a rough time for all of us. I became increasingly aware that I was not speaking the same language as the school/district staff. It was a steep learning curve, but I learned that there were many laws that governed education an
